Amflor Vet Plus
Introduction:
Amflor Vet Plus is a specially
formulated veterinary injection designed for the exclusive use of animals.
Combining the active ingredients Florfenicol and Flunixin, this medication
offers a comprehensive approach to treating and preventing various health issues
in animals. In this blog post, we will explore the composition, pharmacology,
indications, dosage, precautions, and other essential information about Amflor
Vet Plus.
Composition:
Each milliliter of Amflor Vet
Plus contains 300 mg of Florfenicol INN and 16.5 mg of Flunixin USP (as
Flunixin Meglumine).
Pharmacology:
Florfenicol, a synthetic
broad-spectrum antibiotic, effectively targets both gram-positive and
gram-negative bacteria. Acting as a bacteriostatic antibiotic, Florfenicol
inhibits protein synthesis by binding with the 50S ribosomal subunit of
bacteria. Flunixin Meglumine, on the other hand, is a potent nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and
antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins
and other chemicals that trigger the inflammatory response.
Indication:
Amflor Vet Plus is indicated for
the prevention and treatment of respiratory tract infections in bovine animals
caused by Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella maltocida, and Histophilus somni.
Additionally, it is effective against foot rot, acute interdigital
necrobacillosis, infectious pododermatitis, and acute respiratory disease in
pigs associated with pain and fever.
Dosage and Administration:
The recommended route of
administration for Amflor Vet Plus is subcutaneous (SC) injection. The dosage
is 1 ml per 7.5 kg of body weight. The injection should be administered
subcutaneously, preferably at the neck region. It is important not to exceed 10
ml at each injection site. Always follow the instructions provided by a
Registered Veterinarian.
Contraindication:
Amflor Vet Plus is
contraindicated in animals that are hypersensitive to Florfenicol and/or
Flunixin Meglumine.
Warning and Precaution:
Avoid or closely monitor the
concomitant use of Amflor Vet Plus with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Amflor Vet
Plus may include anorexia, decreased water consumption, diarrhea, and swelling
at the injection site. However, these side effects are generally rare.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:
The effects of Florfenicol on
bovine reproductive performance, pregnancy, and lactation have not been
determined. Therefore, the administration of this medicine in pregnant and
lactating animals should be carefully considered in terms of risk and
necessity.
Drug Interactions:
Florfenicol may antagonize the
action of Erythromycin, Clindamycin, Lincomycin, Tylosin, and other medicines.
Flunixin Meglumine may also antagonize the action of NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
Therefore, it is important to avoid or closely monitor concurrent use.
Overdose:
Amflor Vet Plus is generally safe
when administered at recommended doses.
Withdrawal Time:
To ensure food safety, meat must
not be consumed for up to 38 days after the administration of Amflor Vet Plus.
The withdrawal time for milk is not known.
