Combipen Vet®, a powder for injection containing Procaine
Penicillin and Benzyl Penicillin Sodium.
📋 Composition:
Each vial of Combipen Vet® contains Procaine Penicillin BP 30,00,000 Units & Benzyl Penicillin Sodium BP 10,00,000 Units.
💊 Pharmacology:
Combipen Vet® acts by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis of bacteria, specifically by inhibiting the transpeptidase enzyme.
🐾 Indications:
Combipen Vet® 40 Lacs is a versatile solution for various
animal health concerns. It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of
conditions such as Anthrax, Black quarter, Actinomycosis, Calf diphtheria, Foot
rot, Malignant edema, Pneumonia, Navel ill, Tetanus, Wounds, Burns, Mastitis,
Metritis, and secondary bacterial infections, among others.
💉Dosage
& Administration:
Administered via deep intramuscular injection. The dosage
varies depending on the animal's species and weight:
- Cattle/Buffalo/Horse: 10 ml per 200 kg body weight.
- Goat/Sheep/Dog/Cat/Other small animals: 1 ml per 20 kg
body weight.
The injection should be given every 24 hours and continued
for 1-2 days after the symptoms subside. Proper reconstitution is essential,
with 8.4 ml of water for injection added to the powder in the vial to prepare a
10 ml suspension.
🚫Contraindication:
Combipen Vet® is contraindicated in animals that are
hypersensitive to penicillin. Veterinary practitioners must exercise caution in
such cases.

Hypersensitivity reactions are possible, and in such cases,
immediate consultation with a registered Veterinary physician is imperative.
💊Side Effects:
Common side effects include swelling and redness at the
injection site, which usually resolve after therapy cessation. Rare side
effects may include pain, numbness, and diarrhea.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:
Combipen Vet® is generally considered safe for use in
pregnant and lactating animals. However, veterinarians should assess the risk
and necessity when administering it to such animals.

Combipen Vet® may interact with aminoglycosides, potentially
inactivating them. It's essential to be aware of potential drug interactions
during treatment.
💊 Overdose:
In lactating animals, an overdose can lead to increased
penicillin residues in milk, posing potential risks to consumers.

Withdrawal Time:
Meat from animals treated with Combipen Vet® should not be
consumed for up to 6 days after administration. Similarly, milk should not be
consumed for up to 3 days after administration.

Combipen Vet® should be kept below 30°C in a dry place
