Composition:

Moxilin Vet Bolus: Each bolus contains Amoxicillin Trihydrate BP equivalent to 1 g of Amoxicillin.

Moxilin Vet 1 g: Each vial contains 1 g of Amoxicillin (as sterile Amoxicillin Sodium BP). Each ampoule contains 10 ml of water for injection BP for reconstitution.

Moxilin Vet 2 g: Each vial contains 2 g of Amoxicillin (as sterile Amoxicillin Sodium BP). Each ampoule contains 10 ml of water for injection BP for reconstitution.

 

Pharmacology:

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum penicillin with bactericidal activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

 

Indications:

Amoxicillin (Moxilin Vet) is indicated for the treatment of the following infectious diseases in various animals:

 

In Cattle, Horse, Sheep/Goat, Pig, Dog, and Cat:

- Urogenital tract diseases: Mastitis, metritis, pyometra, retained placenta, navel ill, cystitis, nephritis & MMA-syndrome, etc.

- Respiratory diseases: Pneumonia, shipping fever, bronchitis, calf diphtheria, sinusitis, pharyngitis & laryngitis, etc.

- GI tract diseases: Calf scour, salmonellosis, gastritis, enteritis, stomatitis & campylobacteriosis, etc.

- Musculoskeletal diseases: Skin & soft tissue infections, abscesses, wounds, foot rot, arthritis, black quarter & eczema, etc.

- For the prevention of secondary bacterial infections following viral or parasitic infections and post-operation.

 

In Poultry:

- Pneumonia, infectious coryza, fowl cholera, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, necrotic enteritis, CRD, staphylococcosis, ranikhet & gumboro, etc.

 

In Fish:

- Fin rot disease, tail rot disease, dropsy, white & red spot disease, and gill rot disease.

 

Dosage & Administration:

Route of Administration: Oral/IM/IV/SC

 

Moxilin Vet Bolus: For oral administration only.

- Livestock: One bolus/125 kg body weight (8 mg/kg) twice daily.

- Horse: One bolus/25-40 kg body weight thrice daily.

- Poultry: One bolus/10 liters of drinking water twice daily.

- Dog/Cat: 10 mg/kg body weight twice daily.

- Fish & Shrimp: 80 mg/kg body weight daily.

 

Moxilin Vet Powder for Injection: For IM/IV/SC administration only.

- Cattle: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/IV/SC injection once or twice daily for 3-5 days or 1 g/142 kg & 2 g/285 kg body weight.

- Horse: 10 mg/kg body weight by IM/IV/SC injection once or twice daily for 3-5 days or 1 g/100 kg & 2 g/200 kg body weight.

- Sheep/Goat & Pig: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/SC injection once or twice daily for 3-5 days.

- Dogs & Cats: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/SC injection once daily for 3-5 days.

- Or, as directed by a registered Veterinary Physician.

 

Contraindication:

Contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to Amoxicillin.

 

Warning & Precaution:

Amoxicillin is ineffective against beta-lactamase enzyme-producing bacteria. Use cautiously in animals who are documented hypersensitive to other beta-lactam antibiotics, e.g., cephalosporin, cefamycins, carbapenems.

 

Side Effects:

Common side effects include hypersensitivity reactions and local irritation in some cases. Rare side effects are not known.

 

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:

Animal studies did not demonstrate any risk to the fetus. However, the risk and necessity should be considered during administration in pregnant & lactating animals.

 

Drug Interaction:

Administration of Amoxicillin with bacteriostatic drugs (Chloramphenicol, Erythromycin, Tetracycline & Sulfonamide, etc.) may show antagonism effects. There are no known interactions with food and other substances.

 

Overdose:

Symptoms of allergic reactions, central nervous system symptoms of excitement & spasm may occur. No specific antidote is known; symptomatic treatments are advised.

 

Withdrawal Time:

Moxilin Vet Bolus: Meat - Must not be consumed up to 10 days after administration of this medicine. Milk - Must not be consumed up to 1 day after administration.

Moxilin Vet Powder for Injection: Meat - Must not be consumed up to 18 days after administration. Milk - Must not be consumed up to 1 day after administration.

 

Storage:

Store below 30°C temperature in a dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.

 

Packing:

- Moxilin Vet Bolus: Each box contains 5 x 4 boli in blister strips.

- Moxilin Vet 1 g: Each box contains one vial of powder for injection & one ampoule of 10 ml water for injection in a blister strip and a 10 ml disposable syringe.

- Moxilin Vet 2 g: Each box contains one vial of powder for injection & one ampoule of 10 ml water for injection in a blister strip and a 10 ml disposable syringe.
